Chevrolet has teamed up with nonprofit organization Earth Force, which encourages young people to be active community citizens and tackle water quality problems through hands-on science, to look for ten special educators across the U.S. who are committed to encouraging their students to be eco-friendly in their actions. Nominations for the Chevrolet GREEN Teacher Awards are accepted from now until June 30, 2012, with winners being announced on September 1, 2012. Teachers are even allowed to nominate themselves, and K-12, higher-education, and community-based environmental instructors are all eligible! Alyssa Hawkins, Vice President of Programming for Earth Force explains the idea behind the awards, stating, "We are looking for school and community-based educators who take learning beyond the classroom and engage youth in the real-world application of their studies. It is so important that we are empowering today's youth to become active citizens in their communities and their environment."1
The award will be given to ten teachers who embody the following attributes:
